My Cookbook Obsession

Some of you collect shoes or home decor accessories. I collect cookbooks {as well as shoes and home decor accessories}. I blame the cookbook obsession on my mother. Growing up, we had bookshelves all over the house filled to the brim with cookbooks. There have been many rainy afternoons in my life filled with red wine and a good cookbook at my parent's house. These afternoons are usually followed by a home-cooked dinner and more red wine. It's these kinds of traditions that I'm collecting as my own and plan to pass along to my two boys {no girls = boys that will be able to cook, craft and sew. Sorry little dudes.}

The Tartine Bakery Cookbook is my newest find. I've been stalking bookstores everywhere for this book {something in me refuses to buy books on Amazon, although I own a Kindle. Go figure.} And I found it last week and have not been disappointed. It has beautiful food photography and great stories about the folks behind the Tartine Bakery. It's also a good teaching book, with tips and hints for baking various goods.

I wish I could follow this post with pictures of my lemon chiffon meringue cake that I whipped up from a Tartine recipe but sadly, I am on a baking freeze. Chalk it up to a few too many Barefoot Contessa double chocolate layer cakes. But my baking hiatus will only last for a couple more weeks and, when it's over, I'll be running to get my Tartine on. You all should think about following suit. I'd enjoy the company.

I applaud the education of the dudes, and I'm just musing on how to merge the display of all your collections. How about a beautiful room with the cookbooks individually placed on the walls, flat on inconspicuous clear perspex shelves (one per shelf, randomly placed on the walls) and a pair of gala shoes on each book?

I have been known to read a cookbook from cover to cover- just like a novel. I adore them!

Thanks doll,

oh, how I dislike cooking, but I want to like it. I can be inspired by you! My dad is the cook and wine is ALWAYS involved!

Oh my word that looks just delightful.

I own a ton of cookbooks as well and yet cannot stop wanting more. I had tried for a while to make a few recipes per week from a book (and rotate) but somehow that has fallen through. Should pick it up again!
