The EC in the DC...

We have finished the EC {Entryway Closet} in the DC {Dutch Colonial; a.k.a. The Wisteria House}. It was a small part of a very big project but I am really, really enjoying the result.

I can't tell you how easy this project was. If you are a DIY kind of guy or gal, and if you are interested in putting together a closet like ours, here are the steps we took:

1. Find some fabric that you like. Decorno had a great post asking for input on online fabric resources. I found my Mill Creek fabric {see below} at a local crafts store (2.5 yards) for 40% off and, in total, this project cost less than $50.



2. Cut the fabric slightly wider than the back wall of your closet. Use a staple gun around the very edges to attach the fabric to the wall.

3. You can't see it in these pictures, but we outlined the wall with a simple molding. It covered our staples and we were then able to use a sharp knife to cut off any excess fabric.

4. We needed to strengthen the back of our closet in order to hang on the hooks we used and, so, I covered a 1x4 board with fabric and the husband tacked it up on the fabric.

5. We installed hooks on the board that looked like these {but, ahem, were from here and were much cheaper}.

And that is it. And I'm happy every time I open the closet door. It feels like a little surprise when I see the fabric peeking out...

The picture above is actually of the entry way closet with its mirrored door closed shut. I loved how the picture turned out in that it reflected right back out our front door. If you look closely, you can even see that the lower glass panes contain smudges from where my little guy kisses the window every morning when I head to work. Gross to some, adorable to me.
